Spain in the Travel Blog

When is the best time to visit Spain?

Spain’s peak season for tourism is during the summer months of June, July and August where visitors mainly head for beach destinations. Some therefore might argue that the closeby months in spring and fall are better to visit the country.

Visiting Spain in the summer months: Beaches and the Mediterranean

The summer months in Spain are warm and filled with sun. If you are looking for a sunproof period of time to travel and want to head to the beaches, June through August is for you. Although this is also when the country experiences its peak season for tourism, so you won’t be alone at the beaches. Visiting cities in the middle of the country is not recommended during the summer months due to the extreme heat. The best places to visit in the summer in Spain are Islas Baleares (Mallorca, Menorca), the south of Spain or the northwestern part close to the France border like San Sebastian

Visiting Spain in the spring: City exploration at its finest

For a weekend get away to a city destination in Spain the spring, March to May, is perfect. The temperatures are starting to become milder, some days it even feels like summer, flowers start to bloom and the outdoor seatings of restaurants and bars start to fill up with people wanting to enjoy the sun with a glass of wine or some charcuterie. Madrid is perfect in spring. If you are heading for beach destinations like Mallorca, do note that it can be a bit cold in the water.

Visiting Spain in the fall: The late summer

The weather during fall, September and October, can be quite pleasant and still warm and sunny in most parts of Spain. September still might feel like summer and the water temperature is still warm, heaten up by the summer that has just passed. With fewer tourists, it is arguable that September could be the best time to visit some of the beach destinations. The fall is also a perfect time to visit city destinations, with good weather and managable temperatures.

Visiting Spain in the winter: The low season

The winter in Spain is the season where the least amount of people visit the country, at least when it comes to the mainland. Usually people of Europe want a bit more sun and warmth and therefore head to the Canary Islands. However, if you are looking for a stay with few tourists and just want to experience the Spanish vibe, visiting the mainland is perfect. The temperature usually varies between 5 – 15 °C, good to explore cities.
